FAQ - Choosing a provider
Of all the decisions you'll make regarding your laser eye treatment, choosing who will perform it may feel like the hardest. It’s completely understandable that you’d like to put some thought into which provider you have you treatment with and we suggest visiting or being in touch with at least 2 providers.
There are some questions, which you could ask that may help to make your decision easier.
Can I see your company results?
All companies should be able to provide you with their own treatment results and explain how they are applicable to you.
Is my surgeon certified in laser eye treatment by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCO) in the UK? Or in Ireland. is my surgeon registered as a specialist with the Ireland Medical Council (IMC)?
The RCO certification is the latest and highest level of qualification in laser eye treatment and is gained after strict assessment in areas such as surgical skill and patient management. Only 56 surgeons are accredited in the UK and it’s important to know your surgeon has this certification.
In Ireland in order to practice, all medical practitioners hold a general registration with the IMC, however specialist registration is specifically for medical practitioners who have completed additional specialist training recognised by the IMC and can practise independently as a specialist.
Can I see statistics on my surgeon?
Your treatment provider should be able to provide statistics on your surgeon and also an up to date CV. Guidelines suggest your surgeon should be treating 200 or more people each year.
Is there any cost for aftercare? For how long is aftercare provided without cost?
All aftercare relating to your treatment should be provided free of charge. Many companies claim to offer a Lifetime Care Guarantee, however this sometimes refer to the lifetime of their treatment process rather than a true lifetime so be sure to clarify this.
