"It was 8 years ago when I started working at the Chelmsford clinic as a Clinic Technician. I have always worked in the medical world and I'd looked in the local paper and seen the advert and it appealed to me. I had heard of Ultralase when I lived in Chester so the idea of working again in a clinical environment seemed ideal. I have now been a Personal Advisor for four years.

The best thing about my role is I get to know people on an ongoing basis, not just seeing them once. Some people who have had treatment even pop in to say hello when they are in Chelmsford!! I get to chat to people which makes each day different. Also I enjoy the competition of trying to stay up on the PA league table, plus the rewards are great!

A typical day involves carrying out scans on patients eyes and finding some bits of information from them. Usually I carry out scans on two patients, and then counsel them after they have seen the Optometrist. Some people book their treatment there and then; others need to think about things first. In between these duties I ring patients to arrange their finance applications if necessary and if they had not booked on the day of consultation I will ring them back in about a week to talk through their options. It is my role to make patients feel at ease which helps allay their fears, and they go away thinking Ultralase is a great place."

"I have been Clinic Manager in Belfast since 2001 and I have to say, no two days are the same, every day brings new challenges! Primarily I am responsible for coaching and supporting the development of my team and driving performance. I also map the clinic diaries, produce reports and forecasts and interact with patients. I am also responsible for regulatory compliance which requires a continuous up date of local policies and risk assessments.

My role is definitely challenging, on the one hand you are motivating and managing your team and on the other you are responsible for providing excellent customer care to patients who have their own unique needs and requirements. You need to be able to deal with both areas with integrity, honesty and care.

What makes my job so enjoyable is seeing the difference in patients who have had treatment. It is such a great feeling, but I have to say, I am most proud of being part of a team that includes such highly skilled consultants and optometrists. They give such care and attention to all their patients, whether they are suitable for treatment with us or not, that it is exceptionally rewarding managing such a team. I am definitely proud to work for Ultralase."

Greig Foster, Clinical Technician

"I have been at the Glasgow clinic for just over two years and one of the roles I fulfil there is that of Clinical Technician. Each day is different for me and my duties are so varied, but one of the things I particularly like about this role is that I get to see the whole patient journey.

I see the patient before their treatment, so a big part of my job is to reassure them about the treatment process. I go through their aftercare routine, explain to them what to expect and then take the patient through to have their treatment and then into recovery afterwards.

Another crucial aspect of this position is ensuring that the treatment suite is set for surgery and that all the relevant protocols are followed to maintain high standards of clinical care.

I also get to travel to different clinics which I enjoy as I get to build relationships with lots of different people and meet more patients.

I chose Ultralase because I knew they had a great reputation around Glasgow and I am now proud to be a part of that. I used to go past the building every day before I worked here and thought what a nice place it looked to work, I have to say I haven't been disappointed."

Chris Horner, Lead Clinic Nurse

"I joined Ultralase as a Lead Clinic Nurse in May 2007 and my role is to ensure that all clinical activity is undertaken to the highest standard ensuring compliancy with Ultralase protocol, Care Quality Commission Regulation, Nursing and Midwifery Council Codes of Practice. The outcome of this is to ensure that all Ultralase patients are afforded the best outcomes in a safe, professional, compliant environment.

As a nursing practitioner I am involved in ensuring that the patient journey, when attending for treatment, is undertaken seamlessly. This includes; ensuring a thorough preparation of the patient is performed to ensure a safe treatment and recovery giving the patient the best possible outcome, ensuring compliant theatre practice with respect to aseptic theatre trolley management thereby negating risk to the patient and procedural outcome and ensuring safe laser practice is undertaken compliant with protocol and regulation, again giving the patient the best possible outcome following treatment.

Another part of my role is to act as a mentor to support, train and develop Colleagues within the clinical teams at the Liverpool Clinic and in addition to this; I have also had the opportunity to be involved in supporting the Ultralase On-Call service. These additional responsibilities have given me a greater understanding of patient experiences following treatment and have enhanced my role as Lead Nurse within my clinic. I enjoy the diversity of activity in my role and I enjoy the challenges that I encounter working at Ultralase.

No day is ever the same!"

Amar Virdee, Contact Centre Advisor

"I started work with Ultralase in February 2010 as a Contact Centre Advisor and haven't looked back. My role involves speaking to customers who have made an enquiry either via the internet or through other means (TV/word of mouth etc). I take time to find out why they are interested in vision correction treatment and book them in for a free consultation with no obligation. We also speak to patients who have had treatment in order to arrange check up appointments or assist regarding any questions and queries that they may have. Full training was provided for the role and also regular coaching and product knowledge is shared via coaching from your team leader.

If you work hard and achieve your objectives your efforts are rewarded well. I enjoy working as a Sales Advisor because your performance is recognised and there are opportunities to be nominated for awards such as Advisor of the Year.

The best thing about this role is the staff and management who I work alongside with - we are always treated like adults and are accountable for what we do. Objectives set are realistic and achievable, which for me is 'win win' because I am rewarded but also feel a good sense of personal satisfaction.

All in all, when you work for Ultralase you know you are working for the longest established vision correction provider, with the best, highly trained staff and surgeons. Working within the contact centre you can be confidant that there is a great team environment, where your voice is heard, your hard work is recognised and you will always be encouraged to develop your skills.

Anika Amin, Optometrist

"I am an Optometrist at our Reading and Guildford clinics. A typical day for me involves seeing patients for consultations in order to assess their suitability for laser eye surgery and also seeing patients for aftercare appointments.

The best bit about my role I have to say is seeing the transformation in people who have had treatment. It is so rewarding being a part of improving their lives and seeing what a difference it makes to them. I particularly enjoy dealing with interesting or complex cases, and being a part of helping that person live a life free from glasses or contact lenses. I learn something new everyday!

Ultralase is at the forefront of ophthalmic refractive surgery, which in an ever changing industry is something I am proud to be a part of. Working for a company with integrity is very important to me, so the fact that Ultralase is so honest and open with patients makes my job more rewarding and enjoyable."
